"Everyone discusses my art and pretends to understand, as if it were necessary to understand, when it is simply necessary to love."

From the first time I saw the ocean, I have found great peace walking along the beach and feeling the power of the tides. Of course, this place is instantly interrupted when I open a picnic basket. Years ago, I learned to bring extra food for my persistent guests. If I'd chosen to paint a fourth panel, I would have added a hand holding potato chips.
"One of Two Lights" oil on canvas
This painting is from my series, "Each Unique: Studies of America's Lighthouses." Rather than a lonely light on a desolate pile of rocks, this wonderful lighthouse is now located amid a highly-populated coastal area. Only when surrounded by the morning fog and uncultivated flora does it evoke its origin as a lonely sentinel, warning ships from darkened, rocky shore.
