The art of Debra Blore
While I enjoy the process of setting up my artwork, patrons often come to me with their own ideas.  I find working in collaboration with another art lover sometimes yields wonderful results.  If a buyer or designer has special needs, I am glad to discuss a project.

"Exotic Eggs"      oil on canvas, 11"x14"

A designer who specializes in country decor approached me with an idea for one of his clients.  He chose some of the home-owner's kitchen items and eggs from the client's own chickens for this small painting which hangs in the  keeping room today.  The designer wanted this small piece of art as a companion piece for a larger painting of mine he'd purchased to hang above a walk-in, stone fireplace in the keeping room.

"Border Terriers"      oil on canvas, 19"x23"

The owners of this brother and sister wanted them painted, but had no setting in mind.  Since they live in the Highlands, I studied the dog portraiture of the Victorian period and learned that many of the famous Scottish dog portraits of the period used simple Highland settings.  By placing the puppies at rest on a hillside above a nearby loch, they appear to be sunbathing after a playful run.  Having spent time with these two, a still moment was a rare site.  Rather than sittings, I had to rely on photography.

Whenever I am approached with a beautiful piece someone wants to commission me to paint, I always think of this quote:

"Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art."

Ralph Waldo Emerson
